Starved Rock State Park

Just like last year, the leaves seem to be staying green and then just suddenly falling off the trees. But, we decided to give Starved Rock another autumn go. Two years ago we went and we caught it at the perfect time. The leaves were red, yellow and orange. The waterfalls were even still going. It was gorgeous and I didn't bring my camera.

No waterfalls this time, but it's still a magnificent place to go. The trees were still mostly green in the park. The drive up however, was very colorful. We hiked about 8 miles. And don't feel sorry for Elroy, it didn't even wind him. People kept coming up to us and saying, "Awww, how's he doing?" and "Poor little guy." If they only knew. But, a Rottweiler did try to eat him.

  1. It is SO flat where I live that I long for hikes like this. The ocean is a wonderful compensation, but I think I need to get myself to some hills and mountains soon!

  3. No kidding. We've been going to Starved Rock for years for exactly that reason. We tried going to other parks closer to Chi-town, but they were sooooo flat! A nice walk in the woods is nice, but we wanted to climb up and down hills, see waterfalls ... So worth the 2+ hour drive, eEven with a whining dog the ENTIRE way there AND back ;)

  4. I gotta say Lauren, I'd rather have the ocean! Though I love our hikes. But, there's nothing like an ocean breeze.

  5. Thanks Sweet Posy! Just realized I don't actually know your real name! :-) It's so beautiful, nothing like Chicago at all. No offense, Chicago.
