DIY Friday-Thanksgiving crafts

We're going to Washington D.C. for Thanksgiving to visit the in-laws (I'll have lots of photos to share, I'm sure). We'll be dining on salmon and curried cauliflower (wha??). And the wine will be flowing of course! However, the burning question is, do I like curry? The one time I tried it, I wasn't a fan. But, how do you know if it's good curry or bad? Was it cooked correctly? Did they drop it on the floor first? This will be the true test this Thanksgiving, since I know it will be the best curry it can be!

Do you have a less than traditional Thanksgiving meal? When I was a kid, we used to go to a cafeteria in Texas on Thanksgiving day, called Luby's. No cooking for us! There was no sense when it was just the three of us. We'd have big family get-togethers before the holidays at my aunt and uncle's place though. I really miss that now, being all the way up here in Chicago. It has me reminiscing a little. But, no more delay-on with the Thanksgiving DIY's!
I love this idea. What a great way to remind ourselves the holiday isn't just about food: Thanksgiving tree DIY.

How do you make the perfect Thanksgiving pie?

A Thanksgiving table is not complete without some crafty pumpkin luminaries.

Don't forget the pumpkin placeholders!

  1. Need to get on a Thanksgiving tree! It's a great idea. It instantly makes you feel grateful...because we DO have so much to be thankful for, right? Thanks for sharing, and the reminder. Have great weekend, M.

  2. I love curry! I'll be interested to hear how you like the curried cauliflower.

We once ate pizza on Thanksgiving. We were getting ready to move. Hyde Park pizzas were the best! Just typing that makes me hungry for a Medici pizza.

  3. Yes we do, inspiration! I've been thinking about that a lot this week. I don't usually do that around thanksgiving actually, lol.

Sweet Posy-I've never had that pizza before. Mmm pizza sounds good though. Hehe, once we had Friday's for Christmas Eve dinner. But, we actually took it to-go.

  5. Even though we don't celebrate thanksgiving in Australia, I love the idea of having a gratitude tree! So lovely!

  6. I love the gratitude tree. Some people here do rocks - everyone chooses a small smooth stone and writes their message. Your in-laws are lovely people - may you all be blessed with peace and love this holiday season. Aunt T

  7. Love your gratitude tree. We're getting a late start on this (not on the gratitude, just on expressing it!), but I'm glad there's so much inspiration out there! And my son is asking for apple pie along with the requisite pumpkin. Is that Thanksgiving-y enough?

  8. Leah-I think it would be lovely to have a gratitude tree at any occassion. I think it would work for other holidays too!

Thanks, Aunt Trudy! You too. The rocks sound really interesting, I've never seen that before. Happy Thanksgiving!

Haha, Lauren, yeah I think two pies is definitely Thanksgiving-y enough!
