What is a Pumpkin Tree?

We found this cute little bunch at the grocery store. It's mixed in with the flowers, but it's a Pumpkin Tree! Of course, that's not completely true, but that's the common name along with "Pumpkin on a Stick". I thought they were tomatoes at first (a little out of season!), but they're actually tiny round eggplants disguised as a pumpkin look-a-like. It's used more in Asian cooking and can taste kind of bitter. I haven't tried ours, they're just too cute to eat. Our bunch came with two stalks with about 8-10 pumpkins on each stalk. You can get bunches that are a mix of colors in shades of yellow, orange and green. Ours were all a ripe orange.

We decided to arrange them in a pretty sangria bottle we had just drank the night before. It's such a nice bottle we figured we'd use it for something. And it kind of makes a festive little decor bottle. Good sangria, too! Anyone else find and buy some Pumpkin Trees this year? I will be buying them again next season! They're just such a unique fall decoration and more of a conversation piece than my standard pumpkins.
