The Field Museum Chicago
My friend Cari is in town for a few days. We did our standard things...went to Hot Chocolate for brunch (heaven), tapas at Tapas Barcelona and something kinda touristy. We went to the Field Museum yesterday and saw the fascinating Whales exhibit. Then, Cari taught me how to find my F-stop and I played around with it in front of the museum. We had our first big snow fall late last week and I've been just antsy to get some pictures of it.
Today is the last day of the Whales exhibit. It's definitely well worth a trip. There are the huge skeletons of whales and who knew they had so many bones!

What I missed about England most
I studied for a semester in London while I was in college. It was an amazing experience and I got to meet Leonardo DiCaprio's wax figure. Actually I did meet Casey Affleck and sat front row for a play with him and Matt Damon. Oooo! Anyway, one of the things I missed most besides the celebrity sightings (wax or not) was Topshop! I was so excited to go downtown Chicago and see Topshop! All my dreams have come true.
I loved their make-up. They had the coolest ombré eyeshadows, before ombré was even cool. Unfortunately, they don't seem to have those anymore, or at least not in America. Oh they also had candy bins at the one in London. I used to get the cherry gummies before they were here. They also had sugar-free gummies that we were so excited about, but they gave us stomach pains so we stopped eating them. Here's some of the rad stuff at Topshop:

Sunrise on Lake Michigan
On our walk past the lake this morning the water was so eerily still right before sunrise. We were walking the "beast", but there was a couple sitting on the rocks watching the sunrise together. It was very sweet. David and I talk about getting up early to go eat breakfast at the rocks, but we still haven't done it. We like our weekend sleep-ins.

Lake Michigan at night
We recently took these photos on Lake Michigan. The lovely skyline of downtown and fireworks right on the water. It was definitely a little bit unsettling to be so close, but it was the highlight of the night.

New "artwork" on the Magnificent Mile...
Wow...I could not believe what I saw when I went downtown Chicago. Right on Michigan Ave., larger than life...was Marilyn Monroe.

Grand Lux Cafe in downtown Chicago
To celebrate my birthday, we went downtown Chicago this weekend. Our first stop was the Grand Lux Cafe that apparently everyone knew about except for us. We got the beignets, which were amazing! And the decor in this place is really stunning. They have these really creative light fixtures. I looked like a dorky tourist while taking these shots, but that's alright. We will definitely go back there again. They had great service as well, but when you go there be prepared to wait for a table. And even if there's an empty table (or two!!!) in the really spectacular sunroom they won't let you sit in there because it's reserved for the rich fancy people. They also have more than one location, in different states: Grand Lux Cafe
