A light blogging week

My husband has been sick for a week and five days now. On day sick (I mean six), I had the pleasure of contracting his incurable face melting disease (I kid, I kid. I'm a little delirious). It's just a virus that will have to run it's course. After six days of health while someone else is hacking up various organs, one would think you'd be in the clear. Apparently not, hence my absence for a few days.
But guess what's keeping me company? I've taken my second foray into the world of young adult novels since I've been an adult (fun fact: I read R.L. Stein up until my early twenties. I can't help it. Actually, I may go to the library when I feel better...). The Hunger Games! I am now obsessed. I heard the movie is going to be really good so I decided to read it before I go see it. I honestly didn't think it would be my kind of story. But, I am enthralled! I literally haven't been able to go to sleep at night because the book is so exciting. Not only can I not put it down, but it seems to be affecting my sleep neurons with too much stimulation.

And it is very well written, unlike other very popular young adult novels (*cough*twilight*cough*. Ugh, sorry I'm so sick). However, I was on the Twilight bandwagon until I just felt a little too over-saturated. And *spoiler alert* she gave grossly birth to a vampire human hybrid. Then I stopped reading. Wah wah waaaaah.

Anyway, it's about a futuristic society being punished by sending a boy and girl teenager from each of their districts to a fight to the death! Yeah, didn't sound like my cup of tea. But, it's not really gory or disturbing so far. And it doesn't give me nightmares, which is the important part. Really, give it a try. I think you'll love it too. I'm going to go lay my head on my desk now.

  1. Feel better! The Hunger Games is definitely on my list of books to read. I especially want to read it before the movie comes out.

  2. Hope you feel better soon!

One of my friends gave me the first book of the Hunger Games trilogy last week but I haven't started it yet. She was laughing at me when I told her I don't want to read a book about anorexic teenagers. Guess I didn't really follow the hype about the books and the upcoming movie ;)

  3. Sorry to hear you and yours aren't feeling well. It's sounds like the upside is all the great reading you're getting accomplished. I did read the first book, but then stopped. I think it was because I started reading Girl with the Dragon Tatoo. That triology is a clincher.
    Feel better, M.

    1. Definitely. I only read the first book of that trilogy and stopped, lol. It was a little disturbing, I wasn't sure if I wanted to read the next two or not. One day maybe I'll try it again. Thank you Theresa!

  4. Well, I have to say that being sick made you pretty funny! Callum has the Hunger Games on his kindle and your the second person that's pretty much enabling me to steal it from him! But, oh FEEL BETTER. Things have not been good here, health wise and right now I'm feeling like a terrible mother for sending my kid to school.

    1. Heh thanks Lauren. You should definitely steal it from him! Just for a little bit. I know, I heard. I'm sure every mother feels that way though. Hope he's fully recovered.
