Finally! I finished! And with literally only minutes to spare. Got my sketchbook to the post office on January 31st at 4:50 PM. Whew. But, I did it! One more thing crossed off my resolutions list.
My theme was monochromatic. I skirted this a little by using darker shades of a color. I used Prisma colors as well as some black and white ink drawings. Each spread focused on one color. Even though my theme was monochromatic, I did want a colorful book. I love color. For most pages, I wanted a single subject for every page filled with a pattern.
I was so late on this book because I was so afraid to start it. I didn't want to mess it up. And guess what? I did. But, that's okay. It's just a sketchbook, not a masterpiece, so having some flubs is okay. I even have some pages in the book I absolutely despise. But, it's finished! And there are some pages I'm really proud of. My favorite is the page with the lined flowers (second photo).
The cover is my favorite part of the book. I drew the letters on the cover freehand and painted them in watercolors (on watercolor paper), cut, and glued them on. Then, I traced around them in black to make them pop.
It looks fantastic! I love the cover and all the little peeks of your drawings, but I think I especially like the owl. Those eyes are just great.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful like the creator. You will look back on it and recognize new growth and meaning in each page. I love it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Aunt Trudy! As you can see, I got my watercolors for Christmas. :-)
DeleteCONGRATS on the beautiful completion of ur sketchbook!!!! I luv the owl, lovebirds, chandelier ... ok, I luv all of it!!!
ReplyDeleteMichelle, you outdid yourself! The final result looks beautiful, and congratulations on getting it completed. As you explain your process/journey through this project, it reminds me of life. Sometimes you absolutely love and are proud of your life, and other days not so much. But that's ok. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletePS~Thanks for your reply to my comment question. I tried to go in and see if I could change my comment settings, but that didn't change anything. Perhaps it's the template your using. Anyway, thank you, M!
No problem Theresa! I've been asked that question before. Wish I had an answer. But, maybe it is the template I'm using. That makes sense.
DeleteGorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I am in total awe of your stunning sketches. I love the process and hearing you describe it. Thank you so much for allowing us in on the journey.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sketches! And I love what you did on the cover!
ReplyDeleteWow those are amazing!!! I think the little mistakes are what makes the book real. =) Either way I cant even tell where your "mess ups" are.. The sketches look amazing!!
