We'd be wearing jackets and feel the crisp chilly air of fall. We'd pick bright red and green apples just spilling from the huge leafy trees. Then we'd have some hot apple cider and bake a pretty apple pie with our winnings.
Nope, it was hot. No jackets, no hot cider. Just the glaring sun. But, it was fun none-the-less. The cider was excellent cold. I didn't even want to add spices to it, it was so perfect. The apples were great too and they let you eat as many as you want while you're picking. We ate three apples each. Then we hated apples. We bought a baker's dozen and a half cider donuts, with the plan on giving some away. Nope, we ate them all. Now, we hate donuts too. Can't wait to go pumpkin patching!
While we were there, they looked to be running low on apples. So, go now if you want to go at all! We went to Kuiper's Family Farm in Maple Park, IL. They have a great gift shop too, I got my mom some pumpkin butter. They also have caramel apples. Anyone else been apple picking this season? Where did you go?
A word of advice: don't eat three pumpkins each when you go to the pumpkin patch! : ) Looks like a glorious day.
ReplyDeleteHaha great advice!
ReplyDeleteI've always been a fan of the sweeter apples (Golden Delicious, woot woot) which there were in abundance. I practically filled my bag with those.
ReplyDeleteThen I tried Jonagold apples, which are apparently a combination of Jonathon apples and the GD's.
Iz got a new favorite... :)
When you were in Maple Park, you were almost as far west as where I am. I live in DeKalb.
ReplyDeleteOh wow you are far out! I've been to DeKalb a lot. We had some friends that lived out there for a while. They have a really cute store downtown I think called Moxie, have you been there?
